Service Pack 7, which was released by LaGarde on June 23, 2005, contained a variety of updates affecting several different areas of the application. The purpose of this Knowledge Base article is to describe to you how to download, install, and apply the Service Pack. To ensure that the update proceeds smoothly with minimal interruptions to your web store's service, please read and follow all instructions carefully.

The update process can be broken into three major steps.

Step 1: Read the Release Notes: if you haven't already read the release notes for Service Pack 7, stop and do so now. Click here to access the release notes.

Step 2: Download and Install the Update: download the update from Support.StoreFront.Net and install it on the workstation where StoreFront 6 is currently installed.

Step 3: Apply the Update to your Web Stores: after you've read the release notes and downloaded and installed the update, you'll be ready to apply it to your StoreFront 6 web stores.

Step 2: Download and Install the Update

Download and install the update by following the instructions below.

  1. Service Pack 6 must be installed before you can install Service Pack 7. To determine whether you have Service Pack 6, open Dreamweaver or FrontPage and select the About option from the StoreFront 6 menu. If the Install Version number displayed by the resulting dialog is not at least 6.6.0.0, then you do not have Service Pack 6.
  2. Click here, or paste the following URL into your browser's address window: http://support.storefront.net/portal/download.aspx.
  3. After you successfully authenticate by providing a username and password, you'll be able to download the service pack. Save it to a location where you can easily locate it, such as your Desktop.
  4. Close all your open applications, including antivirus programs, and double-click the SF6ServicePack7.exe file to install it. Follow the instructions displayed during the installer, then, when the installation process is complete, proceed to the next step: Step 3: Apply the Update to your Web Stores.

Step 3: Apply the Update to your Web Stores

Installing the update locally will upgrade your StoreFront client tools and the default set of template files used to build new StoreFront 6 web stores; however, it won't have any effect on your existing web stores. Once you've downloaded and installed the update, all that remains is for you to apply it to your web stores by following these instructions.

  1. To begin, first open your web store in Dreamweaver or FrontPage.
  2. Create backup copies of the following files in the web store:

    • SF6.mdb in the store's DB folder (Access users only).
    • Any StoreFront file which you have customized.
    • Web.Config in the store's root and ssl folders. Note: not all stores will have a web.config file in the ssl folder.
    • The SFTEMPLATES folder below SSL/Management/.
    • Both copies of styles.css. One copy resides in the root folder of your web store; the other, in the SSL folder.
  3. After making the prescribed backups, click on the StoreFront 6.0 menu of FrontPage or Dreamweaver and choose Web Setup Wizard.
  4. FrontPage users should choose Use Existing Virtual Directory. Dreamweaver users should choose Do Not Create a Virtual Directory.
  5. Choose Access.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Leave the Web Site Location, Secure Directory Location, Mail Component, and Mail Server fields set to the defaults.
  8. Click Import Web.
  9. If prompted to overwrite the existing files, choose Yes to All.
  10. After the Web Setup Wizard has finished running, re-import your backup of web.config. If you are updating a web store which uses an Access database, also import the backup of SF6.mdb into the store's DB folder, overwriting the copy which resides there. Use your backup of the SFTEMPLATES folder to replace the new SFTEMPLATES folder and its contents that were imported by the Web Setup Wizard.
  11. If you created backups of customized files, you must merge your custom code with the updated files which were imported by the Web Setup Wizard. Using a file comparison utility such as WinDiff or WinMerge, compare each of your customized files with their new, up-to-date counterparts. Using the results of the comparison, either add your customizations to the new files or add any updated code from the new files to your customized files.

    Note: only the following files were affected by the Service Pack 7 update: Files Affected

  12. After ensuring that your customized files are fully up to date, re-import them into the site, overwriting the copies which reside there.
  13. If you are using Dreamweaver, at this point you should use Dreamweaver's Put function to upload your updated files to the remote server hosting the web store.
  14. Click on the StoreFront 6.0 menu of Dreamweaver or FrontPage and choose Compile Components.
  15. Some stores may have two copies of the Bin folder: one below the root folder, and one directly below the SSL folder. Copy the contents of the /Bin folder and paste them into SSL/Bin, overwriting the files which reside there.
  16. Test your site by placing one or more test orders and browsing through the catalog in the same fashion as a customer might. If you encounter problems, review these instructions carefully to ensure that you did not miss a step. Failing that, contact StoreFront Support.
